Pete Smith

I am not able to send e-mail through outlook express. I
purchased my computer , a HP pavilion ze5300, with XP
Professional.

I have had three support sessions with HP tech. Their
only proposed solution is reinstall my operating system.
This has been a hells-bell soltuion because I have a lot
of different software installed on my computer, e.g.
Visual Studio Net, Quicken, etc., some of which have
dicey installs.

Nonetheless, I have done several re-installs and continue
to receive the following message:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Pete
Smith - OpenQuant', Server: 'mail.openquant.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I have gone to the OutLook support section: "OL2002:
Cannot Send e-mail", "Linksys support page",
and "MicroSoft Knowledge Base Article - 159211". I have
a Linksys Model No. EZHU804 router, which is not one of
the routers listed in the Linksys support page, attached
to my pc. I am not able to activate a Linksys router
support screen as described by the "Linksys support page".

I considered setting up the e-mail account in msn-9,
which has no problem sending e-mail. Unfortunately, my e-
mail address on my web hosting page is in the format:
(e-mail address removed). Msn-9 does not accept a
period, ".", in an e-mail address, so I can't use Msn-9
for this purpose. By the way, the iaf file that I am
using in Outlook Express was provided by my web hoster
and was tested and verified as functioning by my web
hsoter.

I am stumped.

Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed?

Thanks and best regards.

It doesn't really sound like a problem with Outlook Express itself. As far
as I can make out this is an error with your SMTP settings.

This error can come up if you are using a web host that blocks using SMTPs
other than their own.

Try changing the SMTP setting in your account to that of your service
provider and see if that helps.

To change your SMTP settings:

- Tools > Accounts
- Under the Mail tab, select the mail account you're having problems with
and click Properties
- Go to Servers tab and you'll see the SMTP settings.
- Make a note of what is there at the moment before you change them.
- Change the SMTP server address to that of your ISP. You will most likely
have to enter details in the "My server requires authentication" tab and
also check the box. Details in here should be the login info for your ISP.

If all goes well, that should solve your problems.

If it's no help at all, then sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

Happy problem-solving,

K

Greetings --

Have you tried contacting your ISP for assistance? They should be
able to verify that you've configured your email account properly.

Hi

Have you contacted your ISP? The 0x800CCC0E error would suggest a fault with the SMTP server.

Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application as it's the most
likely suspect. It provides no additional protection BTW.
