outlook express

i have windows xp prof. i am trying to install a new virus-secutity suite.
each time i get a notice "can not continue installation because someone is
running outlook express."
i have tryed deleting the entire outlook program but i can not even do this
"because outlook express is being used"
suggestions?

It sound Odd to me, do you have Outlook or any user on that machine have
outlook as their client for E-mail?.
Press ALT + CTRL + DEL and Kill the Process for Outlook and perform the
installation.
Please Disconnect from the Internet by unplug the Telephone cable or the
USB to the computer.
Did you scanned for malware on your computer and performed a Disk CleanUp?.
If you didn't then do it and try to install.
Make sure you logged as Admin to perform the installation of the AV.

Outlook Express is msimn.exe.

Open the Task Manager and if msimn.exe is running, kill it.

Open the Task Manager...
Ctrl + Shift + Esc | Click the Processes tab | Click the Image Name header
to alphabetize |
If msimn.exe is listed, right click it and click End Process | Click Yes to
the popup.

Good lord, how I did n't mentioned that and how the OP will know Outlook
among all the EXEs.

Outlook Express is msimn.exe.

Do you mean Outlook? Outlook is outlook.exe.

Or Outlook Express. Outlook Express is MSIMN.EXE = MicroSoft Internet Mail
and News.

trend micro... i have installed the update on 2 other computers w/o problem.
i can not kill outlook express, says someone is using it. it does not appear
in the tast mgr or show up anywhere as being active.
