My wife and I use different identities to keep our
messages separate. But, after switching a few times, it
just closes and I can't open OE again. Must reboot.

Any ideas?

The official line is you should always leave an Identity via File>Exit and
Log Off Identity.

That being said, a bug in Q330994 seems to be causing this problem when
using File>Switch Identities. Until a fix is released (don't hold your
breath), see these workarounds:
