need help to update registery for Outlook Express

I gxxgled the web last 2 weeks on a scripted way to update registery.

I found something, but, wasn't success.

What is needed is to execute
REG update "hkcu\Identities\{032FHFD-7C2B-488A-AF5B-872898374419}
\software\microsoft\outlook express\5.0\Store Root"="\\myBox\myShare"

I did a
REG query "hkcu\Identities\{032FHFD-7C2B-488A-AF5B-872898374419}
\software\microsoft\outlook express\5.0\Store Root"
and has updated it.
EXPAND_SZ Store Root \\myBox\myShare

When I open OutlookExp, the changes wasn't there.

When I close OE, the changes reverted back to default.
C:\>REG query "hkcu\Identities\{8602FD2F-7C2B-488A-AF5B-87876D484419}
\software\microsoft\outlook express\5.0\Store Root"
EXPAND_SZ Store Root %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application
Data\
Identities\{032FHFD-7C2B-488A-AF5B-872898374419}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\

How can I change it so OE will accept the changes? So, the first time I
open OE after REG update, it will open the dbx in \\myBox\myShare.

Thanks.

Outlook Express will not work with a network share as the Message Store location. This is by design.

Doug,

Thanks for your response. I have heard many people saying the same thing.

In theory, it doens't; liked you said. In reality, it works if I manually
type it in. However, OE will keep the Store Root value as long as the
network connection is available when I open the OE. Another word,
1) If I manually type in my \\unc\share from home, use it and reboot it.
Fine; the share sticks everytime.
2) On the other hand, if I manually type it in, no network connection to
\\unc\share (liked open it at hotel). launching OE and OE wil overwrite to
default setting. I have to manually type in again to get it to use
\\unc\share once return home.

What is worst? there is a way to assign the Store Root, but, it won't stick
with REG update (as described in my first post).

Got other ideas?

Thanks, again.

No, as you say, it will automatically default to the user's Documents and Settings path, when the destination isn't available. This happens even with local drives. If you, for example, point the Store folder to the D: drive, it will work fine. Then go into Disk Management, remove the D: drive letter and open OE again. It can't find the store on the D: drive, so it defaults back to Documents and Settings..............

yes, you are right, Doug. OE w o r k s with network folder by design. :)

It just has a mind of its own and default to user's Doc and Set path once
the destinatino isn't available. So, could someone tell me how to get REG
update working?

Thanks!
