Outlook Express Won't move files to "sent items" folder

On a machine running Win XP and Outlook Express 6 (updated) the mail remains
"stuck" in the "outbox" folder even after it was sent.
The file is not moved to the "sent items" folder. Thus, the same mail is
repeatedly sent again and again.
I updated the program through the Microsoft Download page but with no avail.
Please advice.
