I had to do a restore with my cd , everything works again except I cannot
open any attachements to an e-mail The paperclip looks fine but will not open
attachement. It is not the don't let me open thing.I am no expert by any
means, a buddy of mine is, but he is stumped too. Any suggestions will be
very much appreciated, Thanks, Luc

Have you reinstalled the specific application required to open the file
type of the attachments(s) in question?

Beyond that, what happens when you try? What specific error messages do
you get? What do your system event logs report? What specific
troubleshooting steps have you already taken, and what were the results
of each?

No one can help if you don't provide at least a modicum of information.

Where do I find those specific applications you are talking about. I did the
whole recovery disc restore and it said all was back to normal. I have saved
letters but could not open those att. either.I click on the paperclip,
nothing happens, no error messages. When I try save the att. it tells me I
don't have enough disc space, except I have 160 megabytes. I am stumped, so
is my buddy who is quite knowledgableI have to go and find those system
events logs, never looked at thos or know where they are. Get back to you
later. Thanks a lot Luc

Windows XP home SP2.
Here is what is happening with OE6 attachments.
Really there are 2 problems.
1 I cannot open the attachments no matter what it is ie. jpg, pdf etc.
all programs for displaying attachments are installed and working.
When the attachment is double clicked nothing happens, no error message and
does not open. The event log does not have an entry for this event.

2. I cannot save the attachment.
Right click and "save as" opens the "save attachment as" dialog box and
clicking save results in the following error message "The command failed to
excecute".
Right Click and "save all" opens the "save attachments" dialog box and
clicking save results in the following error message "there was an error
saving one or more of the attachments. Please check your free disk space and
try again."
Free disk space is not an issue and there is nothing in the event log...
Hope someone can help.
Thanks,
Luc

it's a famous issue, I don't know how you didn't find it in googling
if you can't find that, you won't ever find anything.

sp2 by default has OE blocking attachments

tools..options..security.."do not allowe attachments..." UNCHECK
THAT

q q anoniymus, I stated before, IT IS NOT the don't let me open etc as you
noted. The paperclip is normal .Check or uncheck does NOT make any
difference, Thanks, Luc

sorry, I misread and misjudged.

I just googled
"The command failed to excecute".
and got 2 links.

one experts-exchange one where the guy foudn no solution

another MS one saying to free up space.. You said you had 160MB, that
isn't much. But assuming you meant 160GB or that you do have enough..

Many results came up on the google groups archive.

Not many solutions
One guy got the problem after installing windows defender and solved it
after uninstalling it. Maybe your restore cd contained windows
defender. Perhaps if so it'll be listed under add/remove programs

Antoher guy uninstalled sp2 which solved it, and is debating whether to
reinstall it. I suppose he should. (if still a problem, then unisntall
it and self-debate!)

You could consider another email client. I once had a problem with
outlook express on a computer.Foudn nothing on google. I reinstalled
windows but still had the problem. In the end I used Pocomail, and
still use it on that comp. In some ways it's better than outlook
express. When I reply to emails it doesn't use any html in there , it
uses "> signs" for the original post.

This is Luc, you can forget about this one, read while googling, somebody had
trouble, uninstalled Windows Defender, guess what I uninstalled and I can
open again, have to get in touch with WF and tell them, too bad I liked it,
but it is only Beta 2. Thanks, everybody, Luc
