Outlook Express stored email

I have for the past year since first installing XP Pro,
used Outlook Express for my MSN emails as well as another
ISP provider email. I had save my email messages from
both providers to my local folder. Recently, I had to re-
install XP Pro. Before I did this, I performed a system
backup of all files from my c: drive.

How do I retrive the stored email messages and address
book that I had before re-installing XP Pro. Note, I had
to reformat the c: drive before doing the reinstall.

I know Outlook has a pst file for archived messages but
what file has the stored messages in outlook express?

Email messages are stored as .dbx files and the address book is .wab. Just
do a File, Import from OE of the saved files.

They are stored in a group of files. The usual location in XP is:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{long alpha numeric number}\Microsoft\Outlook Express. All
of the files will have the .dbx file extension.

Retrieve the backed Outlook Express folder from the backed up media and
place it on the hard disk. Make sure that it is not marked as Read Only.
Open Outlook Express and select:
File/Import/Messages/Outlook Express 6/Import from an OE6 Store Directory.
Click Next and select the browse Button. Navigate to the OE folder that you
placed on the hard drive. Click Next and follow the instructions to import
the files.

For the Address Book, the file is located in:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Address Book\Default.wab.
Retrieve this file, place it on the hard drive and select File
Import\Address Book, navigate to the backed up .wab file and click Open.
Follow the instructions in the Wizard.

Hi,

OE mail is stored in *.dbx files, search for them.
