Outlook Express Problem

All my contacts are organized last name, first name.

When I send an email addressed from my address book, Outlook Express makes
me choose
from a list of contacts with the same first name. For example, if I send
something to Joan Kay, it will ask me to choose among six people named Joan
and two with "joan" in their email address.

Is this a "feature" of OE? If I chose the contact from the address book,
why do we have to review from the beginning, and why does it match the first
name only?

Yes, it is a feature of OE. I know it would take some time but you could
work around it I think by going into the properties of each name and
clicking on the nickname box and set it so last name is first. Or by putting
the last name in the first name box.
