So, how can I get my wealth of addresses from my old computer and Outlook
Express into my new computer which has both Outlook Express and the Office
Microsoft Outlook email program?

I have a thumb drive I'm using to transfer things (a bit more manual than a
crossover cable and a network, but without the headaches of trying to get a
network to work)

Here's hoping! :)

Go to File> Import and Export on your old machine and export the address book
to your thumb drive. Then go to the new Outlook and do File>Import and Export
and Import the addresses to your new machine. If you want to keep both OE and
Outlook up to date do it to both.

Your Contacts in Outlook Express are stored in a Windows Address Book file,
a file whose extension of .wab. Often, its name matches your Windows login
name, if you have one, but that's not a guarantee. Search for files whose
extension is .wab and copy it to the thumb drive. On the receiving machine,
start Outlook Express and import the data.

Outlook's Contacts are stored in the same file as all your other Outlook
data: a file whose extension is .pst. With Outlook closed, locate this file
and copy it to the thumb drive. On the receiving machine, you can start
Outlook and open the PST with File>Open>Outlook Data File.
