Outlook Express messages are blank

Messages display fine in Outlook, but in Outlook Express all messages are blank. Selecting a message causes a flicker in the preview pane, but it too is blank. Microsoft Knowledge Base article 312351 suggested deleting IE temporary internet files and windows temp files but this did not help. Any ideas?
