Outlook express is really slow

K

Kelly B.

About a week ago my Outlook express takes over a minute to
load. Before that it took about 5-10 seconds to open.
I'm using XP Pro. 2.5ghz P4 512mb Ram
Have not done anything to my computer. Ran Dfrag,
cleanup disk space, ran adware & spybot to get rid of
spywares. I don't know what else to do to speed it up.
Do you guys know what could be causing the slow downs??
Thanks for your help!

Tools/Options/maintenance.
You can cleanup and delete old email and delete old news and
the compact the remaining files. OE reads all the email
when you open it and if the files are many (and the computer
needs to be defragged) it will take longer.

OE Tools>Options>Maintenance>Clean up now> These options, including Compact,
only apply to News, not Mail. Furthermore, the Delete option only removes
downloaded messages bodies, leaving the headers.

To clean up your newsgroups, see
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm#cleannews

To compact all your folders (which should be done frequently), see
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm#compact

Background Compacting can lead to file damage and loss of messages; disable
it: http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm#auto
