Outlook Express - hang when deleting 'deleted' messages

I'm using O Express 6 under XP. It has hung (& it's done
it before under WIn98 SE), so when it starts up I get the
hourglass - no access to anything. It seems to do this
when I'm 'tidying up' my inbox & deleted folders. On
previous occasions I've re-installed Office, although last
time even that didn't work. I bought a new PC in the hope
that it wouldn't happen under XP. Am I Naive or what?!
Is there a fix or repair for this - I have a lot of mail
in folders which I use in my work, so I'm deperate!

Let's get one thing straight - Outlook Express IS NOT
PART OF OFFICE - so re-installing Office aint much help.

Outlook Express is part of IE 6.0 - you're likely to get A
LOT MORE HELP in the
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress
news group!
