I have been reading that Microsoft may stop us from using Outlook Express in
the new version coming out. Is this true?

It has already gone away, it was discontinued and replaced by Windows Mail
in Vista, no you cannot upgrade to Windows Mail if your using XP.

In the new version of what?

Outlook Express went away when Vista came out.

There will be no native e-mail client included in Windows 7. The expectation
is that users will determine which e-mail client they want and install it.

Microsoft will offer MS Outlook (part of MS Office) and Windows Live Mail.
Thunderbird is an open source option..

That's true and the sad part is that both Windows Mail (comes with Vista)
and Windows Live Mail (has to be downloaded) are both a poor replacement for
Outlook Express, much like all the other useless fluff that comes with
Vista.

Umm... How did it get installed on my other computer running XP Home?

[X-post to OE General]

The default Mail Client in Vista is named Windows Mail (not to be confused
with Windows Live Mail or Windows Live Hotmail, though such confusion may be
unavoidable).

Windows 7 will not include a default Mail Client nor many other
applications; cf. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-10048142-56.html

New version of what? If you mean a new version (Service Pack) of XP, no it's
not true.

If you mean Windows Vista, Outlook Express has been replaced by Windows
Mail, but Windows Mail is essentially nothing but the newest version of
Outlook Express, with a new name instead of just a new version number.

If you mean Windows 7 (not yet released), almost certainly it will not
include something called Outlook Express, and will probably (although I'm
not sure) include the newest version of Windows Mail.

Because it came with it obviously, you completely misunderstood my post. OE
has been replaced by Windows Mail in VISTA (meaning OE has been
discontinued, that does not mean it doesn't ship with XP), XP still uses OE.
