Outlook Express Folder Getting Exponentially Bigger

[Australopithecus Afarensis]

Recently, I notice the file found in the outlook express data directory
grows to 700+ mega bytes.

Folder.dbx

There must be something wrong. How can I fix it?

Tools/options/maintenance/clean up now

I simply delete mine and all my stuff is still intact in the .dbx folders -
However I may try compacting mine to see how it reacts this time. If you
want to experiment, just rename it.

Thanks, that operation brought 712MB down to 7MB on file folder.dbx.

Now, it the past several years, I have never seen this file to be more than
10MB. How did it get up that high all of a sudden?

Many peoples files are growing and they are not aware of it. Look at all the
spam people have been getting. Also, the mass mailing of virus's. When you
delete something, the file is gone (if you empty your deleted folder
occasionally) but the space is still occupied. The folders are simple data
bases. They must be compacted occasionally to release the space.

7MB is still way too large. My Identity's store is currently 49.8MB and
Folders.dbx stands at 518 KB (prior to compacting today).

Disable Background Compacting (if enabled)

Now compact all OE folders whilst offline and do so frequently in future
