Outlook.exe has generated errors...

SEVERAL of my users are getting this error whenever they open Outlook - "Outlook.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created." They are all running Outlook 2000 SP3 (in IMO mode) on Win 2000 SP4. The only error log created is a Dr Watson error in the App log, which i cannot decipher. I have tried everything suggested by the MS KB (renaming extend.dat, cleanpst, remove add-ins, etc...). I even got this error on a brand new pc OUT OF THE BOX, with a brand new profile and .pst! We do not have an Exchange server - just a simple SMTP/POP3. The error has something to with the mail service, as it does not occur if you only use Outlook for the calender or task list... AND if you DO use it for mail, it doesn't occur until Outlook polls the server for your mail.
any ideas?

There must be something logged to the Event Viewer as well. without this it
is hard to tell what's wrong.
Do you use Word as you're e-mail editor? Does it also happen in safe mode?
Do you have any add-ins installed?

the only thing it logs in the event viewer is a Dr Watson information event which says "The application, , generated an application error The error occurred on 04/21/2004 @ 12:02:58.390 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 3A29937F" then the stuff you can't decipher. that's it. i even cleared all logs from the event viewer, reproduced the error, and that's all it logged. i copied the whole event, and can email if you like. i believe outlook uses word as the email editor by default. if so, that what it is set on. there are NO add-ins installed. when you say safe mode, do you mean windows safe mode, or outlook /safe

Outlook /safe

As for the Event Viewer; I'll need at least the Source, Type and Event ID as
well.

yes, i still get the error in safe mode. another way to create the error is to import messages/address book from Outlook Express or another .pst. Happens every time
from the event viewer: Type=information, Source=DrWatson, Catagory=none, ID=409

That's not much indeed. Make sure you've got the latest MDAC installed;
http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/downloads/updates/default.aspx#MDACDownloads

If this doesn't work. Can you try to connect to a different mailbox (for
someone you know it DOES work) on that machine with a user logged on you
that DOESN'T work? Then also see if you get the error with a user logged on
you know it DOES work on another machine on a machine where it DOESN'T work
for someone else. This way we can determine whether it is a mailbox,
computer or user profile issue.
