outlook email alerts

Does anyone know if something in Outlook can be done that will cancel the
email elert when receiving mail. My email alert stopped functioning some time
ago. I did simplify the email back dates as it was to complicated for my wife
to use. Could cancelling that sort of thing disable the alerts even though it
is set up properly in options?

I'm not sure what "email back dates " means or what you did....?
