I get the message that Outlook did not close correctly quite often when I am
opening Outlook. I am careful to close the application completely before
turning off the computer. Why would this problem be occurring?

I have Outlook 2007. I see a lot of add-in items. Many of them are
Microsoft sourced. I have two which are stamps.com and Avidian Prophet5. If
I disable them will I be able to use them in Outlook or are they not usable
if I don't want the file closing problem?

Thanks,
John

The install of Outlook should only include a couple Microsoft add-ins:
Exchange and Fax Server extensions. If there lots of Microsoft add-ins,
they are due to you installing other Microsoft programs that installed
those add-ins.

Start Outlook in its safe mode ("outlook.exe /safe") and see if the
problem continues. This starts Outlook but without loading any of the
add-ins (you won't care about the Exchange add-in if you're not using
Exchange as your mail server) and COM plug-ins (of which not all might
be listed). If that works, disable all the add-ins and COM plug-ins and
restart Outlook in its normal mode. If the problem reappears, it is due
to a COM plug-in that wasn't listed (i.e., you couldn't disable it). If
Outlook runs okay in normal mode with all visibly listed add-ins and COM
plug-ins disabled then you enable one at a time, restart Outlook, and
retest. When the problem reappears, it was due to the last add-in or
COM plug-in that you reenabled.
