Outlook Data Files view in Contacts (2007) ... suggestion\complaint

D

Dave Horne

I've come across this before and was wondering if my suggestion\complaint is
on a list for future improvements.

If I accidentally press a key on my keyboard while viewing Contacts in the
Data File view, the keystroke changes the individual contact. I recently
had this happen while on vacation and the one keystroke changed the last
name of a contact and I could not remember the original 'last name'.
Suffice it to say, I was screwed until I could find a backup and reinstall
the latest pst file.

It really would be great if I were offered - 'The contact has been changed,
do you wish to save?'... or something like that. Thoughts?

Thanks, DH

Diane, again I thank you for your reply.

I would still like to pass on a suggestion to the good folks at MS - if I
'reset' current view, the default setting _allows_ in-cell editing.

I personally think that is asking for problems. My specific example - I
accidentally pressed a key while in Outlook Data File view and essentially
erased an individual's last name.

My two cents. Thanks again, DH

Sounds like you have incell editing enabled - turn it off in View,
customize, other settings.

In-cell editing is enabled by default in some views, but not others. It is a
useful feature for many users - the problem is that many more don't know
about it.
