Outlook CRASHES every time I try to load

K

Karen E

I have had to reinstall all of my software after a hard drive "reconfigure".
All of my Office 2007 products are working except for Outlook. I am unable to
launch the application. It crashes and will not let me access it. After
numerous crashes and sending error reports, it did a diagnostics, and told me
I had to change a setting within "tools" - I needed to select the option
"download a file periodically that helps determine system problems". At one
time, I got a message that said my junk mail was set to "NULL".
Does anyone have any advice? I ought to be able to email Microsoft as I have
just loaded the software, but can't get advice without paying.

Yet tried starting Outlook in its safe mode ("outlook.exe /safe") which
does not include loading any add-ons or COM plug-ins?

K

Karen E

after it has crashed, it as come back and asked me if I wanted to start in
'safe mode' and I have said yes. So it tries again but the same thing
happens. Is there a way for me to initially try it in 'safe mode'?

K

Karen E

I sent my computer in for repair and HP (sorry, not HD) replace the system
board AND reconfigured my hard drive. I was not able to back up data before
repair as I could not start my computer.

D

DL

Use the run option (start>run), and enter:-
outlook.exe /safe
does it start?

If not Control Panel>Mail Applet, create a new Profile, add a new data file
& accounts & test

K

Karen E

no, it still won't start. still says it needs to exit because an error was
commited.

K

Karen E

BEn,

I went through the process and it said I had set up an email account and
showed the POP3 server etc, but when I tried to start Outlook, it failed
again. When I tried to go back in to "Mail" it is giving me "an exception
occurred while trying to run ...system32/shell32.dll,Control_RunDDL...."

Use the Help -> Repair menu in any of the other MS Office components
(Word, Excel, etc.). If that doesn't work, you might have to uninstall
and reinstall Outlook.

That is unlikely to help
Did you actually create a new Profile, add a new data file and your mail
accounts?

THANK YOU DL! I went back into "Mail" and deleted the other profiles and
created a new one, and it worked. I am now able to open Outlook and I'm not
sure why, but it has selectively given me 32 messgaes from the last 3 weeks -
I did recieve many more than that at our Reid Real Estate Simplicato site,
but this is a start. thank you,

DL,
One more question. I retrieved Outlook folders from my hard drive, but can't
seem to get them open. The 'properties' say they are Personal Folders, but I
haven't been able to open them, and am hoping to retrieve my client data
bases/mailing lists.
Thanks,
Karen

Within Outlook, File>Open>Data File.......browse to the pst
(This assumes pst's are located on your HD, eg in Documents folder - Do NOT
overwrite any existing pst)
