I wonder of some kind soul can help unravel this irritating problem.

Outlook 2002 has recently started arbitrarily producing the "Outlook
has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. When I clic
the
details tab, I get:

App Name: outlook.exe
App Ver: 10.0.4510.0
Mod Name: ntdll.dll
Mode Ver: 5.1.2600.2180
offset: 000010f29

There appears to be no pattern to it, and no operator action tha
seems
to cause it. Indeed, Outlook doesn't have to be on screen o
minimised
for the error message to pop up.

For background, the only changes to the PC recently have been that I
have uninstalled Norton Internet Security, and replaced it with
F-Secure Int Sec 2005. I can't be sure, but I don't remember this
happening when I first installed F-Secure, but I know it certainly
didn't happen with Norton.

I have XP Pro, with SP2. I have tried Microsoft sites with th
problem,
with all the usefulness of a chocolate teapot.

I have always had Anti-Virus software, and anti-spyware programmes. I
use Spybot, regularly updated, as well as the Int Sec package, so am
pretty sure there are no nasties hidden away anywhere.

I am not particularly bright when it comes to PCs (or much o
anything
else to be truthful), so am truly stuck.

I don't know of this means anything, but Outlook very often reall
does
not like closing down. Often when I try to shut down, I have to go
through the "end now" option, and sometimes, after this, the screen
just sits there, taunting me with a blank blue screen. Ctrl/Alt/De
has
no effect, nor does shouting very loudly at it, so I end up having to
unplug the thing.

Is there anyone who can help me with this?

selwood-[Hi Mark

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to help me out with this.
I have tried the Detect and Repair in Outlook, but it hasn't made an
difference. It goes through it's routine, then asks me to agree to th
licence terms again, but it hasn't cured the problem. I have trie
un-ticking the box on the error report saying "restart outlook", hopin
it would at least stay quiet while I get on with my work, but even thi
doesn't stop the error message from popping up over any programme.

I'm sorry to be a pain, but any other ideas?

No, it might be some bug or setting in the Norton's.
