Outlook converting .doc files to .dat

G

greg

I have noticed that sometimes, not always, when I send
a .doc attachment it will arrive to the recipient as
a .dat file. The MS knowledge base says to use plain
text format to avoid this problem but there has to be a
way to use rich text and send attachments successfully.

I am on Windows XP Home and Outlook 2000. This is my
first time posting, hope someone else has figured this
out already.

Thanks
Greg

No there isn't. Rich Text is not (or poorly) supported by most other
mailclients other than Outlook. You can however use the HTML format as well
which is basically the same (in layout and options) with the most striking
difference that in-line attachments are not supported.

Thanks for your reply. I thought that rich text formwat
was Outlook's HTML version. If there is an option to
send in a higher format than plain text but to avoid rich
text and this problem (such as the html format you
mention) please advise.

Much thanks,
Greg

You can set the HTML format in Tools-> Options-> tab Mail Format
