Outlook / Win XP converting attachments to .DAT files

G

Greg

I have noticed that sometimes, not always, when I send
a .doc attachment it will arrive to the recipient as
a .dat file. The MS knowledge base says to use plain
text format to avoid this problem but there has to be a
way to use rich text and send attachments successfully.

I am on Windows XP Home and Outlook 2000. This is my
first time posting, hope someone else has figured this
out already.

Thanks
Greg

Hello Greg,
This sounds similar to my problem, sort of,,, I think.
I've been trying to send some files home from work and OE
continues to 'remove access'. I know the files aren't
corrupted. Although, I'm going to check if the .doc has
been changed to .dat. Have you gotten any responses yet?
I really need to be able to work on files at home. So
far OE removes ALL attachments. I'm ready to scream!
Thanks
C.Wood

No replies except yours. Outlook Express is a really
crappy program and from what I recall very little
support. If at all possible try to upgrade to Oulook (so
you can have new worries, like mine ... haha), it is much
better. But, I have no idea why it is intercepting your
attachments. Hopefully an IT person is reading this and
can help you...

As I replied to Cotterwood -- see http://www.omegageek.com/OESecurity.htm
for help getting to your attachments in OE, and for help finding the Outlook
Express newsgroups, since OE is not really supported by this newsgroup :)
You should be able to get plenty of help with OE issues in the OE groups.
