I use WinXP & Outlook 2003. SP2 is installed. Office SP1 is installed. I
imported all my data from Outlook in Win2K to XP when I started using XP on w
new machine several months ago. The new Outlook occasionally hung but worked
most of the time. I use it for emailing as well as the Contacts, Tasks, Notes
& Calendar sections. I synchronise with my SonyEricsson P900 also. Outlook is
now very unstable. It downloads email sometimes and other times hang during
download. It doesn't like emails with attachments. I have turned off preview
panes in all folders when viewing emails. I have run the "scan" file and
repaired the .pst file (many times). I tried to Export all my data to a new
file to (import it later to a clean new file) but Outlook hangs while doing
this. I can't even click on "About" the program as this hangs too. I have
done a reintallation and repair and also a complete reinstallation. Nothing
seems to work. I run Panda Platinum Security for viruses and firewall. Any
suggestions, please?

Do you have a copy of Winfax on your system??? If so remove it or seek help
from symantec

Hi, I am using Winfax and also experience frequent program crashes of
Outlook 2003. I also tried running Office Application Recovery which also
crashed. When I CtrlAltDel it shows 2 instances of Outlook running and not
responding. The only way to get outlook back is to re-boot the pc.

I'm running WinXP Home SP2 and Office 2003Pro SP1. All other Office apps
seem stable. I upgraded from Office 97Pro.

Do you have other evidence to support the theory that it's Winfax casuing
the problem? I did suspect Winfax and re-installed it.

Thanks.

Other than the fact that many people have reported problems with WinFax,
what kind of evidence do you need?

Hi Brian,

I wasn't aware that WinFax was a widely reported issue with Outlook 2003 as
I've only just started digging into this problem but I guess that's probably
the answer then. WIll try removing WinFax and see if the problem is
resolved. Of course then I have a new problem 8-( : no WinFax.

What version of Windows? If XP, why not use its integrated fax capability?

I'm using Win XP Home SP2.

I don't think Windows XP's integrated fax utility is sophisticated enough to
allow me to use my own business headed paper as a cover sheet in the same way
that I can do with WinFax Pro. I can't see any way of importing data to make
cover pages from data stored in Word or Corel formats which is what I have
been using to date as a basis for my WinFax cover page.

If I recall other messages in this group correctly, no WinFax prior to
version 10 will ever be compatible with Outlook 2003 and that V10.03 is
required for Outlook 2003. See SYmantec's support pages, particularly <
