Outlook Connector - too many syncs and can't remove!

Having installed this, it is generating a send/receive every minute or so
which is annoying. I don't seem able to control that as it ignores my
scheduled send/receive in Outlook 2007. I tried removing Outlook Connector
but then every time I ran Outlook I got a warning about a missing plug-in
DLL. Having reinstalled Outlook Connector I tried to disable that DLL hoping
it would allow a clean uninstall. But it wouldn't let me remove the plug-in
saying I didn't have admin rights, even though I do and installed it myself.
( At present I regret having installed Outlook Connector!

When you uninstall it, you must also remove the Hotmail account you
configured it from Outlook.

The Outlook Connector should work without throwing any errors at you. You
might want to share those details as well if you want to try to solve it.

The two sets of errors are as follows:

1. When installed I am unable to control the send/receive frequency of
Outlook Connector. Because it is running a send/receive every minute or two,
it is hampering use of Outlook generally.

2. When I uninstalled Outlook Connector, the next time I ran Outlook I got
an error message something like "Outlook can not find the plug in
msccon32.dll and has disabled the plug-in, try to update or or disable the
plug in. When I tried to disable that plug in, it didn't appear to exist in
the list of plug-ins!

Admittedly, I hadn't manually deleted the hotmail account, but this seemed
to be an error with the program (not finding the plug-in software) rather
than not finding the hotmail account.

Personally, I'd rather solve 1 above, but 2 would also help!

1) How is it hampering Outlook's use to you?
The send/receive process occurs in the background.
If you are having performance issues, make sure you install Service Pack 2
for Office 2007.

2) When you still have the Hotmail account configured but not the Connector
installed, that is the error you'll get.
If you choose to go this route, remove the Hotmail account from your mail
profile.
If you still get that error afterwards, reset your extend.dat file by
renaming it to .old

1. What it was doing was "momentarily" interrupting the program whilst it ran
the send/receive. OK if one only has the one hotmail account, but sufficient
delay with more than one account (and doing so every minute or two) to mess
up any email you happened to be typing at the time. It was doing this
irrespective of the settings in my send/receive group. Incidentally, I am
running Office 2007 SP2.

2. You are absolutely correct! What I have done is to remove the accounts
from Outlook Connector and then set them up in Outlook again manually
(declining the invitation to transfer them into Outlook Connector).

Then, as you advise, uninstalling Outlook Connector worked ok because I no
longer had a linked hotmail account in it at the time.

Now, the hotmail account once again complies with the group scheduled
send/receive and I am much happier. So, at least in my case, the real problem
was Outlook Connector ignoring my scheduled send/receive settings for some
reason.

(PS I think I saw uninstall instructions for Outlook Connector somewhere but
couldn't find them again, so thanks very much for putting me right on that.)

But my first trial of Outlook Connector has certainly put me off it for
now....!

So all is correct now again? With or without Outlook Connector?

I can imagine your first experience wasn't that great this way. Usually it
is due to a corruption or misconfiguration though which can be fixed. FWIW;
the Outlook Connector has been very stable for me.

If you need additional help troubleshooting, just post the info and we'll
take a look at it and see if we can help out

Thanks for your advice - I've bookmarked this thread in case I try
installing it again!

My PC set up is really very new, so I'd hope nothing is corrupted within it
yet. ;-)

I would like to add to the original question that my Outlook Connector
(12.0.6423.1000) not only ignores the scheduled connection settings, but it
also ignores the "Disable Scheduled Send/receive" setting ! And when I then
work w/o internet connection, it comes up with the question to enter my
password again.

Regarding these problems, it is a huge issue for those working with slow
and/or pay-by-volume connections (3G cellular networks etc.)

Hotmail Live now allows POP access to all accounts. If you don't need two-way
sync or calendar access, then POP should suffice.

sending messages, despite careful configuration of the SMTP settings (SSL,
authentication, etc.)
The error is: 0x800CCC7D "your outgoing SMTP server does not support
SSL-secured connections...."
A known issue or a typo in the online help ?

Yes:

SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes

msg (probably a delivery or read receipt) sitting in my outbox.
Outlook keeps trying to send it using Hotmail, and since the msg is hidden,
I have no chance to kill it !!!

And in the meantime I had solved the RR msg stuck in the outbox using
MDBVU32..

So basically, my Outlook2003 fails to send any msg using Hotmail account,
and keeps trying and posting erros despite the fact that I have now unchecked
the option to "Send mail items" using this account in the Send/receive
settings !

Going back to my original post, it there any resolution yet to the trigger
happy syncs, I wonder? Mine was also so bad that if I removed the Hotmail
account from the scheduled send/receive altogether within Outlook, it still
carried on with a send/receive every one to two minutes!

I think I installed Outlook Connector and let it upgrade my existing Hotmail
account. Does it work better if I remove any Hotmail account first, then
install Outlook Connector, then re-establish the Hotmail account?

I think I have found a possible cause: when I use my PC or my WM6 Mobile
(Wi-Fi) through ISA Server 2000 in NAT mode, I get the above problem; when I
configure the PC to use the Firewall client, I get even more errors; when I
connect my mobile phone directly to the Internet through a cellular
connection, I *CAN* successfully send via Hotmail/SMTP. (I have no
possibility to connect my PC directly to the Internet right now).

So it looks like there's an issue when using ISA Server 2000 and Hotmail
SMTP; perhaps one of the rules on the ISA server must be modified (suggestion
?).

No better for me now. Having lost the ability to sync via my old HTTP
account, I set up Outlook Connector and suffered exactly the same problem as
before - no control over syncs and far too may of them. So I've removed the
accounts from Outlook Connector and established them as POP3 accounts. A
definite step backwards really, in my case.
