OUtlook BCM 2007 vs. Exchange Activesync

I definetly have a need for more advanced features to manage my business
contacts / sales process.
I've attempted before to use BCM and shied away for a variety of reasons. So
now that Outlook 2007 Beta is out I thought this might be it.

Still think it is awkward the way Business Contact are separated from
regular outlook contacts, but ok there may be technical reasons for that.

But I still can't synchronize my "Business Contacts" through Exchange
Activesync.

If I have to chose between one or the other, then my vote goes to Exchange
Activesync, BCM gets uninstalled again.

What am I missing here that MS apparently thinks that this is not a feature
that uses want?

I am clueless.

I agree 100% though they will sync with PocketPC, not version 5. We use V5
smartphones and the loss of sync is a big one. I believe the reasons are
simple though, regular contacts can only do so much, as they are tied to
exchange. BCM stores everything in a SQL 2005 database. This gives it
flexibility, but you lose the easy sync.

We had been looking at other solutions, such as Avidian Prophet. It solves
some of the issues, but creates some as well. We just decided today we will
go with BCM 3.0 and accept the loss of sync in hopes that it comes some day,
either from MS or a 3rd party...

I believe that Windows Mobile 5.0 support is really just a matter of time.

For the rest, the beta seems to be very capable.

A 3rd-party sync solution is available as PocketMirror Pro from Chapura.
I've tested it. http://www.chapura.com or you can buy it from me. :)

I had tried out the demo version of this awhile back. All it managed to do
for me was double my contacts (made a duplicate of each) and then said it
wouldn't work with v5 (even though that was the big thing they claimed on the
website). Not sure if there demo was an old version or what, but it turned
me off of the product...

Curt,

Check out the following link below. You can get this as a pst version or a
SQL version "without" having to make the trade offs and compromises that are
needlessly built in to BCM.

Hi Leonid,

Do you know if it will be possible to sync BCM with Contacts in OL?

Anyone,
How does this answer get pulled out of the microsoft corridors? I've read
many posts where this feature is wanted but never heard why it was never
implemented?

Hooping to see lots of solid answers...:)

Magnus

magric,

Sometimes the best answer is the most obvious one ... the silence to your
questions is deafening!

Hopefully no one will post a reply stating that most small business users
don't have the "enterprise-level" need to sync their business contacts with
anything outside of BCM or other such nonsense. I have been reading these
excuses here for almost 3 years.

Real world anyone?

I am doing another go and hoping to make myself heard by some influential
Microsoft guy that will make my dream come true. (I've heard that santa
started with Microsoft a while ago...)

I spend half (at least) of my time doing salescalls or driving my car and
half of my time I spend in office or in hotels. I get business info all the
time but are not able to boot my computer everytime and start BCM. (writing
it down on a piece of paper to punch it in later is not an option, lets agree
on that.). When I am "on the go" I update my phone. When in office I update
my CRM software. Iterate this one week and you will neither trust your info
in the phone and nor the info in the CRM. Just because I cannot sync these
databases. You dont need that many records to waste time managing and
maintain data, which could be done by a click on a button. Enough weining...

Trust me, I am not hostile to technology but I keep converting back to plain
outlook and word (yes correct, Still in windows though). And I will the next
time challenge the microsoft rep before buying that a problem is solved.

I am still waiting for the BCM which is the greatest I have seen so far. If
it will be possible to sync with Contacts it is possible to sync with any
phone and your data can be correct for more that a week.

The answer to this issue is for BCM to update their sync software to
work the current Microsft mobile devices. I'm sure that if enough users

request it, it will rise to the top of their to-do list.
