outlook backup problems

I recently installed office 2003. Earlier I used Office XP with Outlook 2003.
I was running the pfbackup tool comfortably with outlook 2003. After I
uninstalled all office packages (office XP and Outlook 2003) I installed the
new office 2003.

Initially it said that it cannot load the backup addin. So I uninstalled the
pfbackup fromadd/remove programs and when I try to reinstall it I get the
following error messages:

Setup has detected that you have a version of PFB installed on the machine.
Before this download can be installed first uninstall the previous version. I
am unable to locate the previous version and have tried all stunts to get
hold of it!!

So the situation is that I am unable to install the pfbackup and back up
outlook. I have tried all suggestions from various postings but have not been
successful.

Could somebody help me on this please??

Hi,

If you have un-installed the pfback-up addin program, try running a search
for extend.dat and outbak.dll and rename them to .old

Restart the machine and open Outlook and go under Tools> Options> Other>
Advanced Settings> Com Add-Ins and make sure we have anything related to the
back-up addin disabled. Also, check under Add-in Manager too.
Close Outlook and try re-installing the add-in utility.

Thnak you Mittu. This did not solve the problem. Again when I try to install
the pfbackup.exe I get the same messages asking me to uninstall the previous
version and am not able to even find it to uninstall. While searching I did
not find outbak.dll but extend.dat was renamed to extend.old as mentioned.

In one of the postings I had seen an instruction saying that the pfbackup
could be opened by some other extraction utility and installed. If this is
possible could you please send me a link to install such a uitlity. I tried
to get one but was not successful.

Thanks for your time Mittu and hope to find a solution to this soon.

Hi,

Before trying to install the add-in, look in the following location for the
file 'Outbak.dll'.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 12\Addins\Outbak.dll

You could download the PF Backup from the following link-

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=8B081F3A-B7D0-4B16-B8AF-5A6322F4FD01

First save the file onto your Desktop.
Right-click on the pfbackup.exe, and choose to extract the files via WinZip.
Right-click on the pfbackup.msi file, and choose the Install option.

Thanks,

Mittu
