Outlook Backup issue

Using Outlook 2000. Been using the Outlook backup tool provided by Microsoft
for some time without issue.
Noticed that for the past several days all the backup pst's were exactly the
same size even though the pst was under active use. Using data management, I
confirmed where Outlook was keeping the original file. File size is the same
as the backup. When I restore the backup it does not contain updates. When I
go in the folder size properties on the source machine, the file size of the
pst is shown to be larger than either the backup or the PST file on the
source but reports the same file location. When I go to the outlook.pst on
the source it accurately records the time stamp of last access and cannot be
copied while Outlook is active. This is really strange. Outlook is obviously
using the PST but since the file size never changes and the restore of that
file doesn't show updates, updates are going someplace else. Searched for
other PST files on the source and there is just the archive file. Outlook is
running fine meanwhile but this user MUST have accurate backups. Thinking
caps please.

A pst file is a big containter. When deleting email from your Outlook
folders, that space will be reserved for the next email coming. The
size only will change when you get a new email but the pst file is
full.
I think, you don't have a backup problem, the date time stamp should
be the right indicator.
The only problem is having a big pst file changing every day: you need
to backup it completely every day, even when you only received one
single email.
