Outlook attachments

When I try to attach a file to an email Outlook shuts down. I open up outlook
to try again and the same situation occurs.

Type of mail account?
Any error messages and/or numbers?
Have you done any troubleshooting yourself?
Have you checked your Application Event Viewer?

I am using Outlook express XP pro, there are no error messages the program
just shuts down as soon as I click on add attachment.

There is Microsoft Outlook and there is Outlook Express. Which one are you
using?

One is part of Microsoft Office, the other is part of Internet Explorer.

You will get an expert answer if you post in a newsgroup for Outlook
Express. It's part of Internet Explorer and not Microsoft Office, which this
group supports. Outlook Express is not related to Microsoft Outlook at all.
