Outlook Archiving Mystery

It all started when we moved a large Outlook archive file from my computer (which needed the storage space) to ou
server. When I wanted to access the archive file, I couldn't - my computer (networked to the server) returned a
error message saying disk space inadequate. So I had our tech support person install Outlook on the server. He tol
me he was able to open the archive file from the server then. That was about 2 weeks ago. One week later, I tried t
open the archive file and was unable to. Worse, there were now at least 8 additional Outlook files on the server
taking up several gigabytes and making tape backup take several hours

Neither the tech support person nor a long-time computer consultant of ours can figure out what happened or how t
fix it. Some of the Outlook (.pst) files appear to be corrupt, some - when you click on them - open mysteriousl
in Outlook Express. There are a few complications; the tech support person who installed Outlook copied the archive fil
onto the server out of concern over losing data, but he says the majority of the multiple Outlook files seem to hav
created themselves (?)

Well this certainly isn't caused by Outlook. I would say user (admin) error.
Just find your pst-file and delete the rest. Outlook Express isn't capable
of opening pst-files as it can't read the file format.

Note that storing a pst-file on a networkshare is not recommended and not
supported by Microsoft as the file format has never been designed for this
and could lead to corruptions in the file.
