Outlook Allow user to browse for documents to insert as hyperlink

In the last version of Outlook, before I installed the 2003 version, I was
able to browse my computer for files to insert as hyperlinks when composing
email. It was such a convenience!
It now seems that when I go to the insert menu (right-clicking does get me
to a hyperlink menu anymore) when composing an email, I am only able to
hyperlink to a folder and not the specific file in the folder, such as an
excel spreadsheet or a word document. I also have to remember the file
location and retype it, or go to the properties of the location of the file
and copy and paste it into the insert menu's window field of URL "file://" .

Can I revert to the older easier way of insert hyperlinks to documents any
way?

Thanks!
