Outlook adds plus (+) in front of all ones in my contacts

When I add a new contact to outlook and put 1 (999) 999-9999
it auto prepends a plus sign (+) in front of the number.

The problem is my cell phone (which syncs) with outlook can't dial +
before the 1. How do I prevent outlook from doing that?

I'm using 2007.

Also is there a way to export the entire contacts list to excel to add
a 1 to every number then reimport the whole thing back.

Regards

Do not record phone numbers with the 1. Outlook will add it if necessary
according to your Dialing Rules. Just enter (999) 999-9999.

You can't, that's how Outlook stores numbers. The + is part of the
Canonical or International phone number format and your phone shouldn't have
a problem with it. I have a PocketPC Smartphone which syncs with Outlook,
ALL my contact phone numbers begin with +1, and the phone is perfectly
content with it.
