Outlook address book problems

I have many entries in my OAB. Some have been imported from Outlook
Express, and some I have entered manually. My problem is that when I
display the list in the main panel, some are listed [First name Last
name] and some are listed [Last name, First name]. Whatever I do I
cannot seem to get all the entries looking the same.
I have tried Russell's advice (Outlook 2002:
Go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or
address books > Outlook Address Book > Change. > Set your sort order
there) but this makes no difference. I have also looked at each entry
in detail and tried altering them on an individual basis, but even if I
select 'File as' and 'Display as' in the order I want, it makes no
difference either.
Perversely, if I open the address book itself, (Tools>Address Book) the
names are consistent. It's only when displayed in the main panel that
they are wrong.
I ought to say that my names are in a subfolder within the OAB.

You post is most confusing. First, the Outlook Address Book contains no
entries at all. All Contact Data is in Contacts Folders.
It is not at all clear to what views you are referring.
