Outlook address book and shared contacts

Hello

I had a rather weird request from my users! I think that their request is
not solvable, but I just want to be sure before I tell them that. Ok, there's
the problem.

When one user opens another users shared contacts, he is able to see them in
his Other Contacts area. When he opens a new message and clicks "To" button,
to select a contact, he is not able to see the shared contacts.

I am supporting exchange 2003 environment. Maybe someone has come accross
this and knows a magic trick to make shared contacts appear in the address
book?

I really appreciate your time and effort.

Right-click the COntacts folder, choose Properties, select the Outlook
Address Book tab, and choose "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book".

Hello Brian

Thank you for your answer, but that is the problem when you share the
contacts, those contacts are placed under "Other Contacts" and you can't
right click on them and choose the option that you told me about.

Hello

Thank you Brian for the link, this looks like a solution, I will try that
and will post the results.

Hello,

I have tried the link, but it so complicated!

So we had a sit around and came up with, what seems in our situation, is a
more simple solution.

And it looks something like this, I will post the entire resolution.

IF SOMETHING IS NOT CORRECT AND YOU KNOW WHAT, COULD YOU PLEASE SEND ME AN
EMAIL to (e-mail address removed) with the details!!!

Here we go:

Problem:

When a user opens shared contacts of the other user, the shared contacts are
not visible in the address book.

Workaround:

1. Create a public contacts folder
2. Assign appropriate permissions to the desired people
3. Drag the contacts to the newly created public contacts folder.
4. open outlook on the PC of the user, who wants to see shared contacts
5. click on the “Folder Listâ€
6. Browse down to the newly created public contacts folder.
7. Right click on that folder
8. Select “Propertiesâ€
9. select “Outlook Address Book†tab
10. tick “Show this folder as an e-mail Address Bookâ€
11. Click “OKâ€

After this the user will be able to see shared contacts in the address book.

If the user wants to add new contacts to the shared public folder
automatically, he needs to:

1. open Address Book
2. Click “Toolsâ€
3. Click “Optionsâ€
4. Change “Keep personal Addresses in:†field by selecting the appropriate
Public Folder.
5. Click “OKâ€

Note: To save the contacts to the public folder automatically, this action
needs to be done only via address book.

For the shared contacts to be available offline you need:

1. Right click on the root of the Public folders
2. Choose Properties  Advanced…  Advanced tabTick “Download Public Folder
Favourites† OK  OK
3. Then right click on the desired public folder and select “Add to
Favourites…â€
4. Click Send and Receive

Hope this helps!!!

Dear All
I am a new subscriber to this forum and have been very happy yet heavy user
of a Samsung Smartphone for several months. My laptop crashed and needed a
system recovery yet all of a sudden, when reinstalling Active Sync 4, the
syncing with the laptop completely ignores the contacts which are of major
importance, even those the contacts box is ticked during the setup procedure.
CAn anyone shred some light on this and how I can change it to include all my
1000 contacts.

Many many thanks in advance
Mona

Is it, perhaps, a matter of properly configuring the Outlook Address Book
service?
