When trying to install a new email account in outlook 98 gets the
error message has OUTLOOK.exe has generated the error and will be
closed. You will have to restart the program.

Hi,

The problem you are experiencing can be caused by several different issues. Try the following to narrow down the issue.

Step 1. Temporarily disable any anti-virus or firewall software and then test
Step 2: Start Outlook in Safe Mode and test

To start Outlook in Safe Mode, please follow the steps below:
1. Click Start->Run.
2. Type "outlook /safe" (without the quotation marks) in the Open box, and then click Ok. Please note that there is a space character between outlook and /safe.

Step 3: Run a Detect and Repair of Outlook

1. Open Outlook
2. Help > Detect and Repair...
3. Click Start
4. Restart Outlook to check if the problem is fixed
