Outlook 97 (8.04.5619)

I have Outlook 97, Outlook Express 6 and Lotus Notes 6 on a notebook running
Windows XP Pro. I am unable to send and receive emails in Outlook 97 but
others are normal. There is no Send and Receive All icon on toolbar and I
press F5 to cause the Outlook 97 hanged. Can someone advise me the possible
causes and fixes.

Thanks,

Ray

How have you configured Outlook 97? Exactly what steps did you use?

Brian,

I setup my account from Tools -> Services -> Services Tab -> Add -> Internet
E-mail -> Mail Account Properties and filled in the details, i.e., smtp, pop
server names, return address, name, etc. Any idea to correct it?

Thanks,

Ray

Nope, sorry. That all looks normal.

I was plagued with the same symptoms as Ray after migrating my OS from
Windows NT 4.0 to Windows XP. I stumbled onto a MSKB article
(Reference --> http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=176731),
which led me to create a new mail profile, which corrected the
problem. The apparent cause of the problem was the lack of a mail
transport service in my previous (poorly migrated) mail profile. An
additional symptom I had was the lack of a 'MAPISP32.EXE' task in my
task list after starting MS Outlook. After creating a new mail profile
and restarting MS Outlook, the old familiar 'MAPISP32.EXE' process was
back. And e-mail to/from a POP server worked without problems.

Good luck!
