Can't send e-mail with outlook 97 and rogers hispeed

I wet up outlook 97 as the default mail server, and can
receive e-mails. But I can't send any.
Rogers is no help as they do not provide technical
support for e-mail programs other than outlook express.
Is this a problem with the age of 97, (that an upgrade
will solve) or is there something i'm missing in the
setup?

Hi Jim,

If your ISP uses POP3 and SMTP for their email protocols (most do), then you
should be able to configure it. Call them back and ask for the correct SMTP
email server name. This is the server that sends your email. The POP3
server is the one that receives email. Once you have that, you can go back
into OL97's Tools, Services and input the correct SMTP server name. If
everything checks out and you still can't receive email, then you might want
to ask them to help you set up Outlook Express to make sure the problem is
on your end. If Outlook Express doesn't work either, then it's time for
them to help you determine if it's a server-side issue (their issue) or
something else...

Hope this helps...

This is typical of broadband ISPs. Outlook 97 cannot work because you must
authenticate to the outgoing server in order to send mail and Outlook 97
doesn't have that ability. It was introduced in Outlook 98, I believe.
