Your search add-in is probably disabled.
Go to File - Outlook Options - Add-Ins.
At the bottom you will see Manage:COM additns and hit go. You should re-enable it there.

that every time I restarted outlook 2010 the add-in for the emai
indexer (mssphtb.dll) was disabled. I finally removed it figuring
could just reinstall it but I do not see a choice to do that anywhere
