Outlook 2007 - Word, Reading Pane, Favorite Folders Don't Keep

Just got a new Dell laptop with Vista and Office 2007 preloaded. Outlook
2007 works, but unstable. Need help.
1. How do you set Word 2007 as the editor ... not an option in Mail Format.
I see where others can't shut it down. I can't get it to work, and the base
editor is inadequate.
2. The Reading Pane doesn't work ... a pane appears but is blank and views
whatever was the last think that was full screen.
3. If you move items into the Favorite Folder, they don't stay when you exit.

I inserted the Office 2007 and did a repair to see if that would help. It
didn't.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Word is the only editor in Outlook 2007. You no longer get to choose a
non-Wword editor.

Start with a new mail profile.
