Outlook 2007 won’t send mail, send/receive dialog flashes rapidly

Outlook 2007 on Vista Business. From a website on Alaskan Ketchikan Hummer
adventures, I clicked a list to send them an inquiry email. The link opened a
blank email in Outlook. When I went to send the email, the email wouldn’t
send, and the send/receive dialog box flashed rapidly and it displayed
information indicating that it was sending email after email, rapidly
advancing to over 300 messages. I could not delete the message, getting the
message that Outlook was transmitting it, but it still displayed in the
Outbox.
I ran Windows LiveOneCare, which found no problems, then ran the latest
Spybot Defender, which found and deleted three tracking cookies. The email
finally sent, but when I tried to send test messages using different accounts
the same symptoms occurred—messages stuck in the Outbox, flashing
send/receive dialog, and Task Manager as the only way to exit the program. I
uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook, cleaned out the Vista temp file, checked
account settings (all correct), and started Outlook in Safe Mode. Same
problems.
Yikes. Any ideas?
Thanks very much,

Well if it's only you and the OP who have experienced it, perhaps no-one
else can reproduce the behaviour and so find an answer....

I had a similar problem. I used the Task Manger (CTRL+ALT+DEL) to force a
shut down of Outlook 2007. I then reopened Outlook 2007 and went straight to
the Outbox and deleted the offending email. I then immediately shut down
Outlook again and restarted. It worked fine after that.

I have now had this issue on two laptops using completely different ISPs and
email providers... the common thread has been that they both have two POP
accounts. Removing either of the POP email accounts fixes the problem. I now
have them setup using two Outlook profiles.

I had this problem and found the solution somewhere on the MS site (but I
cannot refind it). I have just had it again. The problem is that outlook
sometimes formats the 'display as' email address with a comma eg 'ABC Co
(Smith, Steve)' or something similar. This screws up Outlook send/receive
which flashes and reitereates tasks up to hundreds of attempts.

To resolve it simply amend the email address in the offending email (it is
still in the Outbox) to (e-mail address removed) or whatever and hit send. Dont
forget to amend it in your contacts too.

Hope this helps.

Thank You Loveys

Having fought this for a while now, your tip on amending the email addresses
that populate via both "Contacts" and the nickname file worked!

Office07 works nicely before it behaved exactly like RJ mentioned without
apparent reason. Since I did not add any new contact I doubt the problem
could come from the display bug Loveys mentioned. That's why I did not try
Loveys solution yet.

I found the problem. I sent an email yesterday but it stuck in the outbox. It
turn out I did update one of my contact in the past but after saving the
updated information the old contact with the same "display name" is still in
the list. I deleted the old contact and problem solved.

I also found this solution out of desparation however it is not very
practical for a
a. large address book
b. distribution list
and it is @@@@ annoying.
I've assumed up to now it has to do with synchronising via an iPAQ/windows
CE between O2007 and O2003.
Problem has never happened with my Outlook2003, only Vista/Outlook2007.
Where is the solution????????????

I also found this solution out of desperation.
However it isn't very practical if you have a large address book or a
distribution list. Moreover is it unnecessary and xxxx annoying

I have just had this probelm yet again. Couldn't remember how to fix it.
Searched the web and guess what... I found my own post of the solution. How
sad/wonderful is that?
