Outlook 2007 with Office 2003

We are a medium size lawfirm. We currently have Office 2003 with Outlook.
The firm would like to keep Office 2003, but upgrade Outlook to 2007. From
what I have been reading this is not going to work for us, but I need some
good info to pass on to the higher ups to support this. Can anyone point me
in the direction of some info on trying to use Office 2003 with Outlook
2007? Thank you.

On the whole, Outlook 2007 with any other version for the rest of Office is
somewhat better than any other mixed version Office installation, in that
Outlook 2007 will include a light version of Word 2007 for its own use when
composing messages and displaying HTML formatted messages. You will still
lack the ability to perform integrated functions lke mail merge, however.

I purchased a version of Office 2007 without Outlook because in trying
the demo of Outlook 2007, I didn't see enough difference between it and my
2003 version to warrant the extra cost. After installing Office 2007, I
found that Outlook 2003 could not use Word 2007 as the text editor, so I
reinstalled Word 2003 so Outlook 2003 could use that as the text editor. I
can still use Word 2007 on my computer by double-clicking the desktop icon,
but it has to reinstall itself first, which takes about 60 seconds. To use
the Word text editor in Outlook, I have to double-click the desktop icon for
Word 2003, which reinstalls itself in about 60 seconds. I assume, but have
not tried it, that this might work for other Office elements, but may not be
practical if your staff needs to switch back and forth often.

Thanks Gerry, but being a lawfirm with all those "high maintinance"
attorneys we need to keep it as simple as possible.
