Outlook 2007 with Office 2003?

Has anyone tried to upgrade from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007 while keeping
the other components of Office at 2003? I would like to upgrade Outlook
alone, but have heard about the 2003 install screen coming up every time you
open a 2003 application after installing OL 2007. I'm not worried about OL
2007 "handshaking" with the 2003 programs, I'm more concerned about the
partial 2007 install destabilizing my system or making the 2003 programs more
diificult to use.

Thanks!

Rob,

I've been using Outlook 2007 and Office 2003 pretty fine, just as you
described. I install Office 2003 and than install Outlook 2007 only.
However, if you wanna avoid problems at all costs, install Outlook 2007 in a
different folder, such as 'Microsoft Office2007' in your Program Files
folder. Do not install it in the same folder 'Microsoft Office' used by
Office 2003. The reason is pretty simple. Even if you install only Outlook
2007, the crappy Office2007 install system will install a lot of the
Office2007 subsystem in your computer. So it's better to keep them
separated.

The only downside of this that I've come up with is within Publisher. Using
Publisher 2003, now you cannot send the page by e-mail (as a HTML email)
directly to Outlook. But if you don't use Publisher to create quick
newsletters, you'll be fine.

I also found that loading times of Word and Excel 2003 increase after Office
2007 subsystem gets into the computer, but perhaps it's just an impression,
not really sure.

Good luck,
Rebêlo.
