I have Windows mail that came with Microsoft Vista. Also am using Office
2007 Home and Student edition . I noticed that I am unable to use my E-mail
through Word and Excel Office 20007 without downloading Outlook these
funtions are grayed out . Is there any way I can just purchase Outlook so
that I can use Windows mail with my Office that I currently have. Or is there
a patch I can use in order to make all funtions available in the Office
suite.

Thank You

I think OL2007 is available separately if you check online. I'm seeing
prices around $60-$75

if you like Mail and don't want to spend the money on outlook, why not save
and attach the document?

Thanks for your quick response Vince.
Do you happen to know if I can just use all the features in Office 2007 Home
and Student edition using Windows Mail instead of purchasing Outlok 2007 ?
Windows Mail was supposed to take the place of Outlook Express , I guess that
is where I'm getting confused . I figured that Winows Mail should intagrate
into the Office 2007 Suite of software. Really don't want to spend more money
if Outlook2007 in not going to give me the options to use E-mail and Fax
Commands through the Office 2007 program.

Thank You ,

Diane ,

Thank you for your help ,I really enjoy using Windows mail but I would like
to get my options working in Office 2007 the way they were mant to be used ,
It's too combersom to Create a Word Document and save it in then open my
E-mail and attach it manually when I can just use Offiice2007 for sending
E-mails and Faxes that way.
I really appreciate the links you provided , I shell go and see if I can
find out any new information, It would be nice to get Office 2007 suite
working the way it was designed to work within the office enviroment with
Windows Mail .

It wasn't designed to work with Windows Mail.

On Windows XP with Office 2007 and Outlook 2007 as the default email client,
the "Mail to" function in office 2007 modules calls Outlook 2007. If I then
set Mozilla Thunderbird as my default email client, the "Mail to" function
calls Mozilla Thunderbird, so on that basis I would respectfully suggest
that there is some other reason why the OP is having this problem, not the
fact that he is trying to use Windows mail instead of Outlook...

Of course I know nothing about Vista (yet....)

I just discovered a program One Note in the same Office Enviroment will work
with Windws Mail . One note is part of Office 7007 Home and Student edition.
I can Print and send E-mail messages through that One Note . Anoher thing I
discovered is that Excel will also print but not E-mail option is available.
Maybe I need to try to delete Office and re-load again .

Thank You for your help .

To get full function you need Outlook 2007. If you don't install Outlook
2007 then you will need to live with the limitations of Windows Mail. A
distinct difference is that Windows Mail is a Simple MAPI client while
Outlook 2007 is a Full MAPI client. Simple MAPI has restrictions. Now, some
other email clients are also Full MAPI and might be better suited to Office
2007 integration.
OneNote and WM integration was probably enabled by the OneNote team. They do
tend to take a bit more of an initiative than other teams.
