Outlook 2007 Startup/shutdown problems

Following on from a problem with outlook producing an error at startup "that
a file was not closed properly" last time, it now has problems with closing.
When I click the Cross to close outlook, it disappears, and then an Outlook
not responding message appears and Outlook restarts and does a data file
check!! Very difficult to break the loop.

It is Outlook 2007 on Vista Business.

I have experimented with turning of the virus checker, and can't find any 3rd
party addins in Oultook, but still it has the same problem, Every time I shut
down Outlook it comes back about 30 seconds later with a message that Oulook
has stopped working. It then goes through the recovery process of checking
the files and restarting! I have run the mailbox repair kit and last time it
found no errors, but still the next time I used Outlook I got an error at
startup about the file not closing properly last time, and the error at
shutdown as shown above.

There must be some reason why Outlook will not even shut down without an
error?
