Outlook 2007 SP2 Crashes at random

Hello,

I have an employee who is having a hard time with Outlook since Service Pack
2 was installed.

History:

Office 2003 user, upgraded to Outlook 2007 only, PST file was huge and
caused Outlook 2007 to run very slowly. There were Hot fixes released prior
to Service Pack 2 being released they were installed to address the PST file
size (cache engine rewrite and stuff) KB373379 and KB373476. These were
installed and everything ran fine. There was a caviat here but forgot what
it was - something about Outlook 2007 SP2 NOT being offered as a standalone
installer anymore and these hot fixes were the only way to get Outlook 2007
patched. Don't quote me on this.

Employee decides to install the rest of the Office 2007 Suite - Enterprise.
Installes everything including Outlook 2007. Everything works fine.

MS Office 2007 Service Pack 2 comes out and the random crashes start
occuring. Outlook will just be sitting there and will crash without any real
explanation about what caused it just some serious looking error dialog
boxes...

First one ( the typical program crash send report to MS..):
Microsoft Office Outlook
Microsoft Office has encoutered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on
might be lost.
[X] Restart Microsoft Outlook

Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
blah blah
Click Send Report and it immediately says it was sent. I doubt it was sent
because it completed the sending too fast.

Clicking the details button results in -

Second dialog box:
Microsoft Office Outlook
Error Signature:
AppName: outlook.exe App Ver: 12.0.6423.1000 AppStamp: 49b08185
Mod Name: unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 ModStamp: 00000000
fDebug: 0 offset: 00000000
blah blah blah

Other times when an email is open, Outlook will crash -
Microsoft Office Outlook
Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on
might be lost.
Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
blah blah blah

Before you can click on "Send Error Report" a new dialog appears -

Mircorosft Office Program Recovery
Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a problem and cannot exit. We are
sorry for the inconvenience.

To force Outlook to exit, click "End Now". Any changes you made recently
might be lost if you force the program to exit.
To continue waiting for the program to respond click Cancel.

I will run Office Diags and scanpst.exe now.

I think this is a unique because of the history and the hot fixes.

Might also try uninstalling Microsoft Office Service Pack 2 since that is
when it started happening.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue and are the circumstances similar?

Forgot to include more information -

Windows XP Pro All latest drivers and Service Packs installed
Running Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 4000 2295. I will also uninstall
this and reinstall due to the change of Outlook versions?

Can you reproduce this behavior in Outlook Safe Mode?
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe

If not, the issue is likely to be caused by an addin.

Hello,

Sorry to have taken to long to get back. The user has started running in
Safe mode and loves it. They are hesitant to do anything else.

What would the next steps be to find out the cause?

I suspect an issue with our Anti-virus program and the different versions of
Outlook - (it was originally installed when 2003 was on the system)

Thanks,
danedanedane

Hi, update to this, I uninstalled the Antivirus software and reinstalled it.
This seems to have fixed the crashes.

Thank you for the safe mode suggestion.

Dane
