Outlook 2007 Send Receive not responding

I have a problem that the send/recieve function goes to "Not responding" half
way through its download. This may rectify itself, or on occasions I have to
go through the Task Manager route and shut the whole down and start again.
These are not large file coming in, just normal e-mail. I have no add-ins
running except AVG Pro.

Any suggestions please?
 
Uninstall AVG, reboot, and retest
If ok, reinstall AVG without the outlook intergration
 
Stop the AVG email scanning service and try to send/receive again. If it
works, you know that the AVG integration with Outlook is the culprit.
Uninstall AVG, reboot, reinstall but omit the integration with Outlook.
