Outlook 2007 opens but doesn't work

Since yesterday (7th Jan 2009) I can't seem to use Outlook any longer.

I can open it and then the following happens:
- a box pops up saying the program didn't close properly last time, and
needs to be checked
- the task menu blinks
- the calender remains as 'Opening/Loading'
- I can't click on anything and/or the mouse dissappears
- in Task Manager, the programs shows as 'running'

I am running Vista, and since I bought this new laptop (in July this year) I
haven't encountered any problems...all runs very smoothly.

I have 'repaired' office and rebooted several times as well as ran several
virus scans, but to no avail.

Does anyone know this issue and what the solution is?

Many thanks for your help.

Hello Roady
Thank you for your tip. I have downloaded the software and did the file
check, which removed a few errors, However, didn't solve the problem :{ Any
other suggestions?

Well, you're having a combination of issues; this was the first step ;-)
You might want to run scanpst.exe again on it to verify that all the errors
indeed have been fixed; sometimes it takes a couple of runs.

Once your pst-file is clean of errors, you can try to determine what is
causing you the startup issues.
I'd start with resetting your outcmd.dat and extend.dat files.

Thanks, Roady! I 've done all you suggested...no luck :(

I have setup a new profile and that allowed me to go into Outlook, without
problems. Then I could open the 'faulty' profile (or the .pst file linked to
that) as I imported that into outlook. Everything is now working fine, apart
from the fact taht I have to setup all the settings again, but that is
peanuts compared to losing all data!!!

Thanks heaps for your assistance - much appreciated! I've kept the info on
file, just in case.

Cheers
Bianca.
