Outlook 2007 Not Working At All

G

Gabe

Anything I try to do in Outlook 2007 does not work. Everytime I try to
perform any sort of action (create a new e-mail, reply, perform any File menu
action, etc, etc. - everything doesn't work), I get the following error:

"Could not complete the operation. One or more parameter values are not
valid."

Can anyone tell me why I'm getting this error and how I can fix it?

Thanks,
Gabe

Yes, I tried Help, Office Diagnostics a couple days ago and no trouble was
found. I ran it again today and again, no trouble was found.
This problem began a few days ago - right after I used Outlook Connector to
sync my Windows Live e-mail to Outlook. I tried deleting the new Live e-mail
account but that did not change anything. I tried uninstalling Outlook
Connector but that did not fix the problem. I reinstalled Outlook Connector
and still, Outlook 2007 is not working. Everything I try to do, any funtion
I try to use in Outlook 2007, I get the same error - "Could not complete the
operation. One or more parameter values are not valid." I'm perplexed -
what caused this? Do you know?

Hi Diane or anyone else,

Any further suggestions? I jus tried using View Accounts under the Tools
menu and it told me the feature couldn't be started and that I should either
restart Outlook or reinstall it. Is this the answer? Reinstalling Office
2007? Will I lose all my e-mails?

Thanks,
Gabe

Try deleting the outcmd.dat file. If you upgraded from an older version and
kept the profile, make a new profile.

paste this in the address bar of windows explorer
%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

you'll see and xml, srs and other file types. if outcmd.dat is not present
then you never made any toolbar changes. You could rename the xml and srs
files - outlook will make a new one. NK2 is your nickname cache and can be
left.

Hi Diane,

I deleted the file outcmd.dat as you instructed, then I restarted my laptop,
launched Outlook but I still cannot create a New e-mail (or perform a
multitude of other operations). I get the same error message when I try
creating a new e-mail: "Could not complete the operation. One or more
parameter values are not valid."
When I select Tools > Account Settings, I get the following error message:
"The operation failed because of a registry or installation problem. Restart

Should I save myself some grief and uninstall Office 2007 and then reinstall
it?

Thanks,
Gabe

Try rebuilding your outlook profile

Why did you include the entire thread in your reply and then reply at the
bottom so it was difficult to find the reponse?

Hi Diane,

The file named outcmd.dat was present.
I renamed the xml and srs files as you suggested - I then launched Outlook
2007 and it is still giving me the same errors and trouble whenever I try to
perform any actions.
I then verified the Outlook folder and noticed that Outlook recreated the
srs file but not the xml file as you said it would.
I did not understand your comment "NK2 is your nickname cache and can be
left."

Any further suggestions?

Thanks,
Gabe

Hey Colleen,

Sorry, I misread your post. I did not see your note at the very bottom.

How do I go about rebuilding my profile?

Thanks Brian and everyone for your help!
Recreating my profile was the solution to the problem.
My Outlook 2007 is back up and running now.
Thanks again!

Gabe
