Ends of the Earth

I am able to open Outlook 2007. However when it opens, it does not respond
to any commands. There is no error message, it only says in parenthesis (Not
Responding) near the toolbar. Then I have to click the close button a couple
times to the option to close, restart, etc. This has been occurring for
almost a month, I cannot find a solution. PLease help.

With Outlook closed, try deleting the (usually hidden) file
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook\yourprofile.srs and then restart Outlook. Does
it change anything?

Same problem here, started yesterday. Before I delete anything, is this the
file to which you are referring:

C:\...\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.srs ?

It's all I can find with an .srs suffix. Either that, or I'm not searching
properly...?

That's the one. Apparently your mail profile is named "outlook".

Unfortunately, that didn't work.
What else can I try?

What blows me away is that I cannot pinpoint anything which might have
caused this.

Are there any other symptoms of any kind?

Internet communication seems much slower, which has been happening for a few
weeks - AT&T mobile via ExpressCard. On every reboot (hard and soft), my
trackpad settings revert to default. Overall system response is very slow as
well.

Regarding Outlook itself, when it opens (I use preview mode, and access
email via POP), I see the listing of already-received mail, but nothing will
appear in the preview pane. Upon starting Outlook, it opens then stalls - the
first click, regardless of target, is ignored, and the second click results
in the washed out window and "(Not Responding)" flag in the window title.

When I access the same email server from my office computer, XP Pro
SP2/Outlook 2003/POP, id no not experience these problems with Outlook. I've
been accessing the same email account from both systems for about 8 months,
with no other issues.

....I can't think of anything else to describe, but I'm very open to
suggestions.

Deleted the file and rebooted - no change.

I omitted earlier, and it is still continuing: When I open Outlook, even as
the first app following a reboot, outlook.exe's CPU usage immediately
escalates to 45-55%, and stays there, and the fans zoom up to high, even
following forcing the app closed.

WHat happens if you start Outlook in safe mode?

In safe mode, it is essentially the same, occasionally will display an
already-received message in the preview window, but once I click on something
else and "(Not Responding)" appears in the window title bar, everything else
freezes. At that point, the only application I can open is Task Manager.

Still having the Outlook non-response issue.
I've tried every suggestion thus far,to no avail.

Any other clues, suggestions, anything?

I'm experiencing the same problem. I tried removing the .srs and outcmd.dat
files, and there was no improvement. The one thing that I have noticed is
that when I am not connected to the network, Outlook starts up fine and is
responsive right away - if connected to the network thereafter it also
functions fine. The only time I have a problem is when I am already connected
to the network when I start Outlook. However, that is the case most of the
time.

I have the same issues -and have doen most all of the recommed fixes in this
message board. Nothing yet. This update KB933493 does not download an erroir
message posps up saying "an unexpected version is installed.." what is that
about?

also I noteiced that my CPU meter is pegging 100% with only Outlook
open..when I look at task manager it shows Microsoft Server SQL running at
full speed. What is that? I am not on a server as this is a stand alone
machine at home not connected to any network.

any ideas? thank you

OK

I'm having the same problem, too!
After ~8 months of normal operation, and for no apparent reason - Outlook simply doesn't respond on startup.
Like people here said - CPU usage shoots up, an empty preview is displayed, and there is no response!

Has anyone solved this yet?
Should I re-install Outlook?!

Re-installation won't help at all - creating a new mail profile may. Control
Panel-Mail-Show Profiles-Add.

It just occured to me that the only "strange" thing that happened before the crash was me receiving a meeting invitation and its cancellation, one after the other.
These are the last items Outlook was able to download from the server (I know there are more - I have been able to access my account from a web-based interface).
