Outlook 2007 not closing folders properly?

D

Dave Harry

Office 2007 on Windows Vista.

Just about every time I start Outlook, it tells me that it did not close a
data file last time outlook was shut down and that it has to be checked for
problems.
This takes about 5 minutes.

If it at all relevant, the two PST files I use (i.e. work and personal data)
were both generated in Outlook 2003.

Any assistance in resolving this would be appreciated.

Hi Dave

SCANPST is probably a good idea... see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272227.

Also check if Outlook usually closes 'cleanly' or if you have to End Task
it. If you don't already do so, you could try closing Outlook before you
shut down Windows (as sometimes Outlook takes longer to close than the
timeout allowed before Windows tries to End Task it).

If neither of those help, try disabling your add-ins then adding them back
one-by-one. It's a slow process of elimination, but it often identifies the
source of the problem.

I ran SCANPST, and it found no problems.
I also disconnected my personal PST, leaving only the work one.
Then I even made a new work PST and moved all the items from the old file.
That took a while but it didn't help.
Task Manager shows Outlook is closing ok.
"Diagnostics" shows everything is ok.

I have the same problem on my Vista machine. Ran MSOffice
diagnostics, scanpst. NO problems found. but everytime I start
Outlook 2007 it tells me the data files were not shut down correctly.
Pain in the butt

I have the same problem with my vista business machine, (a personal
folder did not close properly) it just slows everything down, I think
that microsoft should sort this out for us. I am not technical enough
to start taking addins away what ever they are. The machine is used
for business so I cannot risk mucking it up.

Add me to the list...I'm having this problem also. I've been using Vista and
Office 2007 since February, but this problem just started within the last
couple of weeks. I hope there's a fix, as it's VERY annoying!!!!!

I have found if I remove Google Desktop Search, this Outlook problem goes
away.
More problems remain that this does not fix, but that's at least one down.

At least I thought it went away. Didn't happen for a couple of days - until
an hour after I posted.
Alas no.
