Outlook 2007 New Emails Hide from Inbox

I upgraded from 2003 to 2007 and immediately began having a problem with
approx 10-20% new emails not being visible.

I finally figured out a way to display hidden emails by changing
view->current view->unread messages in this folder then the emails would
magically appear

If I toggle between this and and view->current view->messages I can see all
of my messages

Does anyone have a fix so that I can just see all of my new messages and
make them stop hiding? I have searched and havent found any solution

Also deleted all rules, filters etc and had no effect on issue
